You know, I was wondering why Cas looked so shocked when Metatron said Dean died. Like I ship destiel with all my heart and soul but death is a common thing on this show. But then it hit me.

Dean hasn’t died since Cas pulled him from hell.

Cas has never had to deal with Dean’s death. 

This is new to him, and its breaking him apart.
